The latest Dr. Dobbs Journal contains an article that questions the value of properties, and by extension getter/setter methods.

It’s an interesting critique; I expected it to come from the point that most getter/setter methods are simply boilerplate that does nothing but simple assignment. Rather he comes at it from the point of view that allowing access to an object’s internal state violates the principles of OO.
